Cardio Monitors donated to Derby Royal Infirmary

On Tuesday 21st October Derby Lions presented six cardio recorder units to the clinical measurement unit at the DRI.

The Cardio monitors are small but very powerful. They are issued to patients who wear them for 6 days and press a button to start recording when their symptoms start. This ensures that their heart anomalies are recorded for later analysis rather than just recording 6 days of activity most of which is normal.
The presentation of 6 new monitors by Derby Lions DOUBLES the number available in the Clinical Measurement Department and will reduce waiting lists and enable them to treat many more patients

Back on the Road to Jericho

Thanks to a generous donation of a mini bus by Derby Lions the Jericho House, drug rehabilitation project, is back on the road. The Lions share, £5000, of the cost of the mini bus came from Derby Lions topped up by a donation of £1000 from the Rolls Royce Charity Fund.

Following the recent MOT failure of our current transport we did not know how we were going to be able to continue our work said Brian Stevens  manager of Jericho House. We desperately needed transport to enable our young men to attend daily  Narcotics Anonymous sessions and other events that are a vital part of teaching them to build new lives without the support of addictive drugs.. Our founders the Benedictine monks have a philosophy God will provide but I really did not know how we were going to make ends meet towards the end of the year. I was really gob smacked when  I got the phone call from Derby Lions offering to help.

We first contacted Jericho House three months ago and were very impressed with the success they have had in helping young men to live their life without drugs. This was an ideal opportunity to contribute to their very valuable work.

Jericho House have been in Derby for 2 years and have helped 19 young men to find a life beyond drugs
